Beam Editor
This is a browser-based editor for creating 2D laser beam effects for games.
Features and controls:
- Start from one of 8 starter lasers, then modify anything.
- Stack multiple layers to build a unique beam.
- Per-layer controls include core, glow, and edge colors, glow size and falloff, intensity, pulse, thickness instability, tractor pulse, and additive or normal blending.
- Separate muzzle and impact caps, each with a glow, flare, ring, or streak shape and optional sparks (dots or streaks).
- Generate New button creates a random laser from the starter set.
- Target FPS setting. Loop length and frame count are derived from it, and animation speeds snap so every effect loops cleanly.
- 3-Part Export toggle for game-ready beams of any length.
- Exports separate start, middle, and end pieces.
- Wavelengths and speeds are constrained automatically so the middle piece tiles seamlessly, so it can be repeated as many times as you like.
- Set the tile width in pixels.
- A live preview shows the beam assembled from the 3 exported pieces, with an option to show the piece boundaries and set the number of middle repeats.
- Saved effects list for keeping and reloading your designs in the browser.
- JSON config export and import to back up or share an effect.
- Export options
- 3-part ZIP containing three sprite sheets (start, middle, end) plus a layout JSON. File names include the cell size, for example "helix-laser_middle_256x176".
- Whole-beam sprite sheet PNG.
- Animated GIF.
- Current-frame PNG.
- Export at 1x, 2x, 3x, or 4x scale.
- Beams always fire left to right, and all exports have transparent backgrounds. Rotate them in your engine.
